Some automotive events are measured in days—others in generations. This year, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance celebrated its 75th anniversary, bringing the collector-car world together once again on the Monterey Peninsula.
The Rétromobile New York team was there to celebrate—and to keep building the momentum towards November.

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER

From the Tour d’Elegance to the exhibition lawn, the Pebble Beach Concours delivered plenty of memorable moments with over 200 cars from 14 countries and 30 states. Best of Show was awarded to the 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Special Speedster, originally gifted by Duesenberg to Clark Gable and now owned by Harry Yeaggy of Ohio.

A favorite on the field was The Slug: the 1927 Sunbeam with its 1,000-horsepower, twin-engine configuration, brought from England by the National Motor Museum. When both engines were fired up on the lawn, the ground actually trembled! Other highlights included the first-ever Japanese Motorsport class, a 1957 Ferrari Transporter complete with two stunning race cars atop the upper deck, and the Bugatti Royale and Atlantic.

GOING ONCE… GOING TWICE… SOLD!

Gooding Christie’s, the official auction house of Rétromobile New York, added another headline to the week with the $43.5 million sale of a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, a track titan that dominated the 1960s racing scene. Across two days, the auction house announced a record-breaking $159 million in sales—a reminder of the depth and energy of the American collector-car market.

And as a taste of what lies ahead in New York, Gooding Christie’s have just announced they will be featuring a magnificent 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster at the Rétromobile New York sale in November. CART DEPARTMENT TO BRING ICONIC ART CARS TO NEW YORK!

We are delighted to reveal that CART Department is bringing a collection of iconic cars to Rétromobile New York in November!

The CART Department, created by collector Larry Warsh, invites visitors to experience the fusion of art and cars through the creative perspectives of internationally recognized artists, including Keith Haring, Ai Weiwei, Jeff Koons and Shepard Fairey. The special exhibition at Rétromobile New York includes:

Ai Weiwei’s BMW incorporating thousands of LEGO bricks,
transforming a familiar vehicle through one of the artist’s most recognizable materials
